Air-to-water heat pump

The most common type, ideal for heating, domestic hot water, and cooling. It works with underfloor heating or radiators. It utilizes the temperature of the outside air as a natural heat source. It is the simplest and most cost-effective solution, requiring no permits. It takes up little space and can be installed both indoors and outdoors.

Air-to-air heat pump

Suitable for buildings with low heating demands and excellent insulation. Instead of using underfloor heating or radiators, the air acts as the heat distribution system.

How the heat pump system works

This renewable technology uses the energy from the air to provide heating in winter, hot water throughout the year, and cooling in summer.

How does it work?  

The heat pump extracts 75% of its energy from the outside air; the remaining 25% is its electrical consumption, the electricity needed for its operation. 

The heat pump system can multiply the energy it takes from the electrical grid up to five times to transfer it to the building, thanks to the physical properties of the refrigerant gas. In other words, for every kW of electrical energy it consumes, it can generate up to 5 kW of thermal energy.

Application 01

Heating with a heat pump

Heating with a heat pump. For heat production, cold outside air is distributed inside the building through a piping circuit and the building’s distribution system.

The extracted heat is conducted through a piping system with a refrigerant, which causes it to evaporate. A compressor further increases the temperature. In the condenser, this heat is transferred to the heating circuit of your building.

Once it has passed through the heating circuit, the gas reaches an expansion vessel, where the vapor expands – or decompresses -, cools down, and finally liquefies, allowing the refrigerant to absorb ambient energy. The cycle then starts again.

The principle of operation is ingenious and simple. Essentially, the heat pump works in reverse. Warm air is extracted from inside the building or house and expelled to the outside.

Heat pumps usually include a cooling function, so no retrofitting is required. In some cases, additional fan coil units may be needed.

Cool your home or business with a fan coil. Essentially, it is a type of air conditioning. It consists of two components: a heat exchanger, which converts thermal energy, and a fan. The latter uses cold water to cool the air, and the fan then distributes it in the room.

Effectively cools interior spaces. Achieves a greater cooling effect than surface heating methods, and also dehumidifies the air.

Cooling through underfloor heating is possible but not the most efficient system.

In heating mode, hot water circulates and warms the rooms to the desired temperature with a piping system that transports water under the floor of the house. For cooling, the process is reversed: cold water circulates and removes excess heat.

It is necessary to ensure that the temperature of the underfloor heating is controlled by sensors to prevent condensation. Cooling with this method has several advantages: it is completely silent and does not require an additional air conditioning system.

If only conventional radiators are present, it should be noted that a heat pump is not functional for cooling purposes.
